Buses for Perry Highway

PPT is supporting the start of a campaign in the North Hills to get bus service along Perry Highway.

--

Buses for Perry Highway is a group of residents, businesses, educational institutions, and public facilities in the Perry Highway area of the North Hills who are asking the Port Authority to restore services to Perry Highway, north of West View Shopping Center.

The discontinuation of services in this area has impacted access to CCAC North, Northland Public Library, as well as access to shopping and job opportunities.

These areas were most recently serviced through bus route 9,  which was eliminated in 2011. This route had been formed in 2009 as a combination of routes 11C and 13C. If you miss having access to public transportation along Perry Highway in the North Hills, please have your voice heard and take this brief survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1sVVKQU4cs-lWJcg741ftDQJ7RKj_V7xABTBIFQDAOgY/viewform

  1. They should use the buses that they restarted in Baldwin, all day buses go past Empty (every half hour). they canceled the bus service some years back because of very low rider ship. Its a shame that our tax dollars are being wasted and not better utilized in areas that are needed. Stop over and take a look for your self. Oh another Empty bus just drove past. Its A Shame.

    1. Many buses go empty because the buses come too infrequent and the routes don't include most of the stops people needs. USA used to have the best public transportation in the world during the early 20th Century. There is no reason why it can't be resurrected.

    2. When you see an empty bus that doesn't that bus was always empty along it's route. You're only seeing part of the picture. the total ridership of the route is what's important. If you start cutting service at the part of the route that where ridership seems low, then the effect can be to chip away at the total riders on the route. Also, once a route is restarted or a new route is initiated it can take a while for the ridership to build. let's give it a chance to work. There is nothing worse for the system as a whole than constant schedule changes. If people feel that their bus stop might not be there the next week or month, they are going to make other arrangements.

  2. It may be cheaper for us Tax payers to give those few people a cab slip in Baldwin.
