If you’re looking to make the strongest impact in the movement for Transit Justice, you’ve come to the right place.
At Pittsburghers for Public Transit, members are the movement. PPT Members are the heart of this organizing, helping build power to win campaigns and grow a loving community of transit riders, workers, and neighbors.
PPT Members are inspiring change all across Allegheny County, the State of Pennsylvania, and beyond–and you are an important part of it.
What is a PPT member?
At PPT, there are two types of members:
Both types are critical, helping build community and win campaigns.
All members, regardless of type, are eligible to:
- Run for positions on the Board of Directors
- Vote in elections for the Board of Directors
- Provide suggestions and feedback on the annual Strategic Plan
- Vote to ratify the annual Strategic Plan
As a democratic, member-run grassroots union, these four member privileges are taken seriously. Everything this union does is guided by members because we know that transit riders and workers are experts—in our transit system and in our communities.
Dues-paying members
Dues-paying members choose to support PPT financially, with a monthly or annual recurring contribution.
Dues-paying memberships are pay-what-you-can, with a minimum annual contribution of just $2.75—the cost of a single PRT bus fare. Once a person submits a qualifying payment, they will automatically be considered a Dues-paying member of PPT.

Supporter members
Since membership is such an important part of this grassroots union, membership is open to everyone who wants to support this movement—regardless of if they are able to give financially.
Supporter members are those who organize with PPT to build the movement for transit justice. They support the Transit Bill of Rights and have contributed capacity in the past year by:
- Taking action for change through at least one letter campaign, petition or rally,
- OR Building community by attending at least one monthly meeting, committee/campaign meeting, training, or other event.
Once a person meets these criteria, they will automatically be considered a Supporter member of PPT for the next 365 days.
